ART
Growing up in a regional town west of the Sunshine Coast, Tom George developed a passion for the outdoors that wasn’t yet appreciated until he moved to the inner-city suburbs of Brisbane. Much of the artist's current work is fuelled by a yearning to return to the bush as he spends most of his free time birdwatching or fishing amongst the suburban sprawl. Currently studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) at the Queensland University of Technology, Tom George has taken the opportunity to expose himself to as many mediums and practices as possible in order to share his creative feelings.
MUSIC
After finishing high school, Tom George enrolled to formally study music with the intent to not let the passion subside in lieu of a 'conventional' profession. Completing his degree at the Jazz Music Institute, Tom George combines his understanding of Jazz music with his childhood passions of blues and country music to create a guitar-centric sound that he refers to as "an aural depiction of his being." The musician is constantly refining his personal style, collaborating with others who share similar influences and directions. Tom George's musical experience began at playing in country town pubs as a child to playing on the main stage of the Tamworth Country Music Festival as well as playing in jazz bars across Brisbane. Eventually Tom's passion for the arts led him to education with an aspiration to share his gifts with the next generation.
